Our family had a private cook our own breakfast to start the day. Fabulous time, great instruction and really fun to cook in the period kitchen. We also enjoyed the rest of the grounds, blacksmith, sawmill and carriage House/museum.
I was not prepared for how comprehensive this place is. It combines everything there is to love about participatory historical reenactment with expert knowledge about the history of Transit through Wisconsin and an amazing variety of experiences.
This was the 3rd time my family has visited the Wade House and we always enjoy it! We went to the Christmas celebration and enjoyed seeing the period decorations, strung cranberries and popcorn, made old fashioned toys, enjoyed hot cider and plum pudding, went on a scavenger hunt, and decorated gingerbread cookies. It was a very fun afternoon!
The size of this historic site is perfect for an afternoon learning adventure. A horse drawn carriage takes you from the museum to the carriage house, forge and sawmill. Each site has actor guides with interesting stories about mid 19th century Wisconsin. On our visit we got to take a side trip to see a horse drawn plow demonstration.
This was an excellent getaway. Took my kids (21,12,9) all enjoyed it. I went during colder weather and still got to do a horse drawn carriage ride to the Wade house from the museum. Took lots of pictures. Knowledgeable staff at the museum. Can't really say more.... I'll be visiting again for sure.
